Victorian splendour and a touch of class comes to a small suburb of Bieldside, Aberdeen.

A Tearoom, sewing centre and shop with a difference created by award winning entrepeneur, CARoLYN MURDoCH.

Following her graduation from Gray’s School of Art with a BA Hons in Textiles and Surface Design, her intention was to open a much needed Fabric shop in Aberdeen.

However as the premises she acquired had two functional rooms, as well as, a kitchen –it was decided to open a unique and independent tearoom in the area.

Inspired to study her own choice of 4th year University project , the Aesthetic period, she customised the interior design and colour to incorporate her own individual taste as well as Victorian touches. Using decorating methods such as Chine- Collé, stencilling and embossing she personally decorated the walls, tables, chairs and more.

Designing and printed wallpaper plus creating ceramics pieces is another aspect of her work which can be seen within the Tearoom.

Such small things like bone china cups and saucers, silver sugar tongs, butter knives, jam spoons and silver trays are used for the serving of teas, coffees, scrumptious hand- made cakes and scones turns a casual snack into a treat!

Attention to detail and friendly personal service combined with the finest quality of food are the outstanding qualities of this establishment – as the Comments Book adequately describes.

Originally the menu sported mostly teas, coffees and cakes, but now simple as well as healthy lunches are on offer and of course Victorian Afternoon Teas are a must for any cream tea connoisseur! Gift Vouchers for this are available.

In a very short time of the opening the business was a finalist for Trend new business of the year award 2014.

Exclusive to the UK are the Japanese fabrics, displayed together with, French sewing accessories and Scottish Gifts.

Few artists can translate their vision into so many mediums but within this room you will find scarves of all types, bags, stationery, socks , lace bunting and sewing accessories all created by CARoLYN. This area doubles up as a sewing room for classes taking place for one evening and 2 mornings a week where under the supervision of the proprietor creative things begin to happen. “Whether you are a novice or experienced crafter /sewer, there is always something to be learned at one of our sessions”. Classes have included Introduction to Dressmaking, Collage, Cushion making, Creative Patchwork, Scrapbooking and more.

All of this makes for an interesting and enjoyable experience at Cari & Co Victorian Tearoom and Shop in Bieldside.
